MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

YOUTH PASTOR/INTERMEDIATES PASTOR/YOUTH WORKER: Shore Community Church, Auckland (up to full time combined)

 

The following three job descriptions are distinct roles within Shore Community Church with specific weekly hours allocated to them. However, some of these roles may be combined, depending on the candidate. Individuals are welcome to apply for one, two or three of these roles.

 

Who we are looking for:

 

The ideal person(s) for these roles will be a committed Christian who is passionate about helping young people become growing disciples of Jesus, participate fully in the life of the church, and join God’s mission in the world. They will be highly relational, able to connect personally and communicate well with teenagers, youth leaders, parents, the broader church family and our local community. They will also be competent in developing leaders and will work well in a team context. They will be self-starters and be well-organised, able to deal proactively with issues and plan effectively.

 

Key Competencies

  • A mature Christian who has a growing relationship with Christ.

  • Good people skills, relating to people in a caring and compassionate manner and able to effectively handle conflict.

  • Leadership ability, including competence in developing volunteer leaders and mobilising teams.

  • Well organised.

  • Good communicator.

  • A team player who will function well in our staff team.

  • Preferred: education in a related field (not essential).

 

YOUTH PASTOR (yr 9-13)

Hours: 24 per week

 

Reports to: Intergenerational Pastor

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all programmes and events that are part of Shore Youth Community (yr 9-13), ensuring these are purposeful, well-organised and fun, and align with Shore’s threefold purpose: loving God, loving each other, loving the world.

  • Build relationships with teenagers at Shore that communicate love, encouragement and acceptance to them.

  • Help youth at Shore to engage in the broader life of the church, through facilitating serving opportunities, mentoring relationships, and participation in church activities.

  • Develop ways to draw more youth into Shore Youth Community, both from within the broader church and our local communities.

  • Recruit, develop and oversee youth leaders who are equipped to be shepherd-leaders to teenagers.

  • Build positive relationships with parents of youth to ensure a strong partnership between the church and the home. Work with the leaders of Grapple Ministry (yr 7-8) and Young Adults Ministry to manage transition of youth between yrs 8-9 and 13-school leavers.

 

INTERMEDIATES PASTOR (yr 7-8)

Hours: 8 per week

 

Reports to: Intergenerational Pastor

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all programmes and events that are part of our intermediates (Grapple) ministry, ensuring these are purposeful, well-organised and fun, and align with Shore’s threefold purpose: loving God, loving each other, loving the world.

  • Build relationships with intermediate kids at Shore that communicate love, encouragement and acceptance to them.

  • Facilitate ways for intermediate kids at Shore to engage in the broader life of the church, through serving opportunities, mentoring relationships, and participation in church activities.

  • Develop ways to draw more kids into our Grapple ministry, both from within the broader church and our local communities.

  • Recruit, develop and oversee Grapple leaders who are equipped to be shepherd-leaders to kids.

  • Build positive relationships with parents of intermediate kids to ensure a strong partnership between the church and the home.

  • Work with the leaders of Children’s Ministry (yr 0-6) and Youth Ministry (yr 9-13) to manage transition of kids between yrs 6-7 and 8-9.

 

YOUTHWORKER (Albany Junior High School)

Hours: 8-10 per week

 

Reports to: Community Pastor:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students by providing holistic care and building positive relationships with them.

  • Enhance students’ relationships with staff, their peers, their whanau, and other significant people in their lives.

  • Cultivate school spirit by working alongside students, student council and staff in creating a safe and friendly environment where students enjoy their time at school and develop a sense of whanaungatanga (good citizenship).

  • Develop leaders by encouraging and strengthening individual students in leadership roles. This includes helping students with leadership potential explore issues such as communication, self-esteem and trust.

  • Integrate students with out-of-school activities by helping to integrate and connect students with programmes, agencies and extra-curricular activities that can support their wellbeing.
