MM676: Youth Ministry Philosophy and Practice
Aim
To have students think theologically and philosophically
about youth ministry and develop these thoughts into practical
youth ministry strategies.
Content Outline
a. Six frameworks for a youth ministry philosophy: Theology,
ecclesiology, adolescent development, youth culture, youth
ministry history, sociology. Four approaches to youth ministry:
incarnational, ,missional, pastoral, congregational
b. Youth Ministry Practice: Emerging youth ministry practice
in leadership, worship, teaching, discipleship and fellowship.
Assessments
Assessment 1: Written Assessment (2,000 words): Through the
critical examination of various philosophical approaches to
youth ministry, develop your own comprehensive youth ministry
philosophy, justifying your convictions with scripture and
personal research. Identify specific ways in which these convictions
apply to your own youth ministry and list specific ways you
will apply what you learn.
Assessment 2: Written Assessment (2000 words): Identify general
cultural shifts taking place in youth culture today and with
illustrations, describe the extent to which these are reflected
in a specific youth ministry. Based on your observations,
critique a range of approaches to youth ministry practice
and justify the strategies you would use in the specific youth
ministry. List ways you will apply what you learn..
