Youth Ministry Training for You and Your Team:
2012.
As a youth pastor I would always spend time
in the fourth term thinking ahead to the new year and planning
what we would be doing. There were teaching themes to map
out and special activities such as conferences and camps to
fit in. Many of you, I'm sure will be doing the same thing
now.
In your planning for activities for the young
people though, don't forget the needs of your leaders. Trained
leaders are effective leaders and effective leaders gain a
greater sense of purpose and fulfilment in what they do and
tend to stay longer. As you contemplate 2012 you may want
to consider training options that YouthTRAIN offers. In this
newsletter I will outline our five main training options for
volunteer leaders. To help you determine which is best for
your needs consider the following questions:
- I want a thorough and systematic training programme that
I can put all my leaders through every year or two >>>
P4 Training
Programme
- I just want a simple and practical resource to give to
my leaders to read and possibly discuss. >>> P4
Training Programme
- I want someone to come and conduct a one-off training
day covering specific topics of relevance to our leaders.
>>> TARGET
Training
- I want a resource that gives me extensive youth ministry
notes along with photocopiable sheets to be used to train
my leaders in specific areas as the needs arises >>>
Leadership
Training Resource
- I want an in depth course for my key leaders (and me?)
to work through at their own pace or in a group >>>
Certificate
in Youth Ministry
- I have an intern who wants to enrol in an NZQA programme
that will training them for paid youth ministry >>>
Diploma in
Youth Ministry
1. P4 Training Programme
P4 is a training programme you can purchase
resources for and present yourself to your leaders, or have
me come and lead them through a P4 seminar. There are 20 sessions
spread over 4 modules and material include a 60 page booklet
covering core content, a participant's workbook along with
a Leaders Guide and PowerPoint presentation on CDROM. At very
least you can simply purchase the booklets at just NZ$10 each
and make them available to your leaders to read. Each chapter
concludes with some discussion questions.
2. TARGET Training
TARGET Training which allows you to design a
training programme and schedule that suits your own youth
ministry team. We offer TWENTY topics for you to choose from
at just NZ$150 per topic (NZ$750 for a full day of 5 topics)
- the more people you can get to attend, the cheaper it is.
Additional costs such as travel and accommodation must also
be met.
3. Leadership Training Resource
The resource consists of a CD ROM with the full text of eight
workbooks: Principles of Christian Leadership, Management
and Ministry, Youth Ministry Design, Youth Ministry Programming,
Adolescence, Pastoral Care of Adolescents, Youth Culture,
Communication, plus eighty bonus training studies for using
with youth ministry teams. These discussion guides enable
the youth leader to teach, train and facilitate discussion
with their leaders. Content of these training studies mirrors
that of the workbooks but is written with the needs of the
youth leader in mind. Cost is NZ$120.

4. Certificate in Youth Ministry
Our Certificate in Youth Ministry consists of eight modules:
Leading, managing, Designing, Programming, Understanding,
Caring, Connecting and Communicating, with each module consisting
of a 60 page manual and a 20 page workbook for you to write
your answers in. The great thing about this programme for
most people is that there are no deadlines - you start when
you want to start and finish when you finish! You can purchase
each module for NZ$60 as you go or save yourself some money
and pay for all eight up front for NZ$320, saving you or your
church NZ$160.
5. Diploma in Youth Ministry
The Diploma in Youth Ministry can be gained by completing
four youth ministry papers from the Carey Baptist
School of Applied Theology and Mission. Each individual
paper is NZQA recognised, which enables the student
to go on to gain any of the following NZQA qualifications
offered by Carey - Certificate in Applied Theology,
Diploma in Mission or a Bachelor of Applied Theology.
Each paper costs NZ$598.
