Fieldworker Scheme
The YouthTRAIN fieldworker scheme
seeks to place volunteer fieldworkers in various locations
to promote its
training

1.0 ROLE
To promote and provide YouthTRAIN training, resources and
support to youth workers in a defined geographical area.
2.0 DESCRIPTION
YouthTRAIN Fieldworkers are volunteer workers who act as
our representatives in a geographical area. The scope of this
area and the extent of the task undertaken is determined through
consultation between the Fieldworker and the Director and
takes into account geography, need, and the Fieldworker’s
own constraints such as time available.
3.0 RATIONALE
The fieldworker positions benefit YouthTRAIN as follows:
- Enhanced channels of communication with youth workers.
- Personalised marketing of YouthTRAIN training and resources.
- Strategy whereby future paid consultants can be trained
and assessed.
The Fieldworker themselves receive benefits as follows:
- Opportunity to operate in an official regional capacity,
learning skills that equip them for future employment with
YouthTRAIN or their own denomination in a regional role.
- Opportunity to participate in training and learn training
related skills.
- A range of financial based benefits and incentives (see
section 7).
4.0 TASKS
4.1 Communication
- To compile and maintain a list of youth ministry contact
people for their prescribed area.
- To attend area/denominational meetings of youth workers/pastors,
or where these networks do not exist, organise and promote
these, using such meetings as an opportunity to promote
YouthTRAIN training and resources.
- Regular one to one visitation with youth workers to promote
YouthTRAIN training and resources.
4.2 Training
- To schedule, promote and organise TARGET7 training seminars.
- To schedule, promote and organise 7PLUS training seminars.
- To provide other training as requested and required in
their area as a YouthTRAIN representative.
4.3 Liaison
- To liaise with the YouthTRAIN Director providing quarterly
written reports, excerpts of which are reported to the YouthTRAIN
Board.
To attend bi-annual YouthTRAIN team meetings for planning,
information and inspiration.
5.0 RESULTS DESCRIPTIONS
5.1 Communication
- A contact list containing names, addresses, phone numbers,
email addresses and use of YouthTRAIN training/resources
is compiled and a strategy and procedure for keeping it
up to date is in place and being implemented.
- Regular and appropriate promotion of YouthTRAIN training
and resources within existing and/or established youth worker
networks.
- A strategy for regular visitation with youth workers to
promote YouthTRAIN training and resources is in place and
being implemented.
5.2 Training
- An appropriate schedule for TARGET7 training seminars
is in place and is being implemented.
- An appropriate schedule for 7PLUS training seminars is
in place and is being implemented.
- Evidence of growing competence in equipping and motivating
youth leaders is apparent.
5.3 Liaison
- Quarterly written reports outlining activities are submitted
to the Director.
- Where practicable possible, attendance and positive participation
in bi-annual YouthTRAIN team meetings.
6.0 PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS
Performance appraisals based on the above criteria are held
with the Director six months after taking up the position
and thereafter annually. The emphasis in performance appraisals
is on
assisting
the fieldworker to identify strategies that lead to growth
in personal effectiveness and competence.
7.0 REIMBURSEMENTS, BENEFITS AND INCENTIVES
The position is a voluntary position. YouthTRAIN will however
offer the following reimbursements, benefits and incentives:
7.1 Reimbursements
These will be made monthly:
- Travel related expenses at the rate of $0.21/km
- Toll calls (copy of account required)
- Photocopy costs at the rate of $0.05/copy
- Postage
7.2 Benefits
In return for serving as a YouthTRAIN fieldworker, workers
are entitled to:
- Free attendance at all YouthTRAIN training events including
TARGET7, 7PLUS and the Youth Ministry Summit, but excluding
courses offered through Carey Baptist College.
- Free copies of all current and future YouthTRAIN resources
(for as long as they serve in the position) for promotional
purposes and personal use.
7.3 Incentives
Fieldworkers can generate personal income through:
- Profits from TARGET7 and 7PLUS training days.
- Producing resources to add to the YouthTRAIN online catalogue.
If approved, YouthTRAIN will market these resources through
its website and other activities and will take a 20% share,
the remainder going to the fieldworker.
- Application to local authorities, agencies and trusts
to fund their work of training, resourcing and supporting
youth workers.
- Raising of team support for hours or work undertaken.
Note: Fieldworkers must submit financial records as part
of their quarterly report, and are expected to pay their
own tax at the end of the financial year for any personal
income generated through YouthTRAIN. If they generate sufficient
funding and show proficiency in their task YouthTRAIN may
consider offering the fieldworker employment with their salary
paid out of a fund of monies generated.
8.0 PROFILE
The Fieldworker position suits a person who fits the following
criteria:
- A credible and effective record in youth ministry
- A person with a heart for the “bigger picture”
- A person with a passion for training and motivating youth
leaders
- A person who can genuinely and enthusiastically endorse
YouthTRAIN training and resources.
- A person who subscribes to YouthTRAIN values
and professional standards.
9.0 APPLICATION, APPOINTMENT AND TERMINATION
Application must be made in writing on the attached form.
Appointments are made by the Director and ratified by the
YouthTRAIN Board. Initial appointment is for a six month
period
at which point a performance appraisal will determine future
appointment. Appointments may be terminated by either party
without reason on one month’s written notice. For
those engaged in full time ministry, applications must
be made with the approval of the senior pastor/minister
and/or church leadership.
