Mission Nepal

YouthTRAIN is making a commitment to partner with the Nepal
Baptist Youth Fellowship (NBYF) in a three year strategy they
have developed to raise the standard of youth leadership training
throughout the country. I travelled there in May for 2-3 weeks
of training and resourcing. My itinerary included speaking
at three 3 day youth ministry training conferences in West,
Central and East Nepal. You can read more here.
An invitation has been issued to return in 2010. This time
I will go and do more extensive training for a team of "trainers"
who will then take this teaching and the resources I will
provide to offer training seminars throughout the country.
The cost of undertaking this will be about $3000.
This is great opportunity and we are seeking individuals
and youth groups to assist us in raising the necessary finances.
As youth leaders - you can assist us with very little extra
work! Here are a couple of suggestions:
-
The $5 Challenge: Our $5 note has a
picture of Sir Edmund Hillary on it - the first person
to climb Mount Everest in Nepal. So here is the plan.
Run an activity and add another $5 to the cost. Let the
young people know why using the information
and power point presentation below. Every youth group
that contributes will receive a "power point report"
to share with their young people showing how their money
was used.
- Missions Committee: Approach the convenor
of your missions committee, passing on the information below
that outlines the need and request that they have a look
at making a small contribution from their mission's budget.
The needs are great in Nepal. The Christian church has grown
from 0.5% of the population to 2.0% since religious freedom
have begun to be introduced over the past 8 years. It's an
opportunity that could disappear in the future given the fact
that Hindu extremists continue to threat believers and two
of the strongest political parties are the Maoist and Communists.
While there is freedom to follow any religion, the constitution
still prohibits attempts convert people, so the church must
make the most of this opportunity now. However they lack the
training and finances necessary to tackle the task set before
them. That's where we can help.
To make a contribution simply go to our donations
page and make a contribution by credit card direct debit
or cheque. Or you can contribute using internet
banking.
